Joe McElderry, the cute 18 year old student from South Shields, won the hearts of judges and audience at his first audition with a performance of ‘Dance with my Father’ by Luther Vandross. Simon was surprised at his choice of “tough” song, but Joe said it was a “I just like singing it.” His family and friends cried at the side of the stage as he sang, and the judges loved it. Louis said it was a “great performance and you have great likeability,” Cheryl said she was proud that he was representing their city, and Simon, after delivering the fourth resounding ‘yes’ said “We may just have found ourselves a pop star!” High praise indeed, but would his success continue at bootcamp?

Nerves almost got the better of Joe during his performance of ‘Praying for Time’ at the Hammersmith Apollo. “I don’t know whether that’s going to be good enough. I don’t think it would have been,” he told Dermot afterwards. Simon thought he was a year or two away from being right for the competition but Joe McElderry was through. “Things like this don’t happen to people like me.” he said.
Things like that did happen to him, and he gave another emotional performance, this time of ‘Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word’, in front of his mentor Cheryl and Will Young. They both loved his voice, and after a tough decision, where Cheryl had to put any personal liking for the teenager aside, it was time to break the news. When Cheryl told Joe that he was through, he looked at her in disbelief “No way! No way!” he cried, and gave her a hug that almost knocked her off the sofa. There could be a lot more emotion on the way with Joe.

i love joe!

Dear Jo ,you are my second favourite fan and i think you should win.love yana
I and my wife have followed Joe from the first time he stepped on the stage in the auditions. And from the first time he sang, we both fell in love with him and his voice. I said to my wife from the start that I had a gut feeling he would be in the finals and he made it, now he’s in the final 2. For us he is the winner the No. 1. We will follow his career and we will be first in the shop here in Keighley to buy his music. My mother gets really immotional when he sings “Dance with my father” as my father is no longer with us, and she misses him, and would love to dance one more time with him. From both of us to Joe, we wish you every success in your new life, we love you Joe.
i think joe is the most gorgeous guy ever and deserves to win, even if he doesn’t, i hope he’ll go on to the west end or something
:L
Very well done Joe, thought you would win from the early stages of comp. We always watch at home. Good luck with the single and best wishes for 2010 and beyond. Bez and Noi..
Predictions correct from the outset. The quiet ones are the ones to watch out for. Charisma needn’t be loud or overbearing. Considering just how much the standard of recent XFactor winners (& runner-ups who have made it big), Joe seemed to accommodate all the factors (x, y, and z). Joe doesn’t need to perform physically to achieve a breathtaking performance, as his vocals did precisely what his body didn’t require to do (as was the case with his fellow finalist – who it must be said was dynamic physically but vocally not so).
I can’t be alone in saying how much he brought several timeless classics into his own. It’s vocally perfect, whereas sadly Olly Mur’s deliberate americanised accent and raptuous performance can’t be noticed on the radio. If McElderry hadn’t won, I’d have missed hearing his vowals on the radio. And the unusually personal stamp on G. Michael’s, Journey’s, Luther’s and E. John’s tunes. He carries it elegantly and distinctively, which marks him out to be a simply better vocalist among the 12 finalists.
It certainly helps he is a genuinely down to earth character who has the influence to make people take him seriously. I hope he can take this talent further into songwriting. He does what he does it from within. Really looking forward to hearing some more of hsis beautiful vowals. Those timeless classics were beautifully honoured with respect with his performance.
It takes time to establish your reputation. This is an unbelievablly big platform for Joe, however with the backing of an elite company, I hope this is done well and your career is about the writing as much as touring/PR. It’s a journey you’ve got a lifetime to work on. Take it easy.
Congratulations.
Yey! Joe Wins! What a night… so happy
Congratulations Joe. The right person won out in the end. Beautiful voice. You’ll go a long long way.

I hate you Joe. I hate you so much.
And i absolutely detest all X Factor pop idol fucking nonsense!
I suppose its for the kids though…
GET THE KIDS INTO SOME REAL MUSIC! NOT THIS MANUFACTURED PUPPET SHITE!
I HATE XFACTOR AND ALL THE COMMERCIALISED ARTISTS HOPING TO FAST-TRACK IT INTO THE INDUSTRY THAT IT PRODUCES. I HATE CHEESEBALL JOE AND HIS GOD AWFUL RENDITION OF THE CLIMB – WHAT HAS HE DONE TO DESERVE A CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE? HE DIDN’T EVEN WRITE THE SONG. IT’S ALL JUST KARAOKE! THERE’S SERIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY.
well done joe we all love ya
Quote: well done joe we all love ya
Judging from the previous comments i don’t think that’s true!

FUCK YOU I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!
THEY SAY JUMP JOE SAYS “HOW HIGH?”
we’ll let the bugger have the number 1 hit next week jesus
So i heard you had a few bad things to say about Killing in the Name? Well, i’m fairly sure that RATM would have no quam with flaming you for your rendition, of what is allready a pretty crap song which some how deserves a number 1 spot according to those affiliated with X factor.
However, it isn’t personal, just a shame you are owned by the machine that is X factor and that it is bad luck that it happens to be this year that people are fighting this much for the number one spot. Would have been the same for any other X factor drone.
If you do have enough talent to get to number one, you shouldn’t need X factor to get you there.
Go RATM!
Fuck joe i wont do what you tell me
I’m part of the RATM xmas no1 campaign, and it is nothing personal against Simon Cowell or Joe. However, after that article he did in the Sun, I truly hope that the obnoxious dipshit’s career fails within a couple of weeks and he is forgotten about within a couple more. If you’re going to insult a talented, famous, politically motivated, contraversial and, frankly, brilliant band, make sure to actually become famous or talented before. Winning a kareoke contest does not make you that greatest singer the world has ever know, and it definatley doesn’t give you the right to insult well-established bands. Also, just to point out, RATM fans have raised over £55,000 for a homeless charity – you never know, it could get Joe off the streets in a few months when his career has crashed and burned.
I’ve got nothing against Joe personally, but he sure as hell doesn’t deserve the number 1! Singing covers once a week for ten weeks isn’t hard work, it’s called Karaoke!
RAGE FOR NUMBER !
F**K YOU, I WON’T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!
Fuck this over-hyped karaoke contest and everything it stands for.
Buy RATM for Christmas this year. Make a fucking stand
heard you had a few bad things to say to THE COMMERCIALISED ARTISTS HOPING TO FAST-TRACK IT INTO, moves and they shakey hips, i backed joe bumming chickens is really comfortable.
He does what he does it from within. Really looking forward to hearing some more of hsis beautiful vowals. Those timeless Things, like this don’t happen to people like me.”
Judging from the previous CHEESEBALL JOE AND HIS GOD AWFUL RENDITION OF THE CLIMB – WHAT HAS HE DONE TO DESERVE A CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE? HE just loved you,i have sons your age so my heart went out to your mum, dad and gran & all the other family there waiting
ITS Like HYPNOTizing A FUCKING CHICKEN
I don’t know if Joe reads the comments posted on this website (my guess is that he most probably won’t) but if i were to i would like to ask him where he gets off insulting a band with such a high reputation and a band of such a high quality.
And I completely agree with Jaime’s comment, I had no real problem with Joe Mcelderry until he got all big headed.
When you look past all the bullshit who is he….he is a nobody, but the X-factor have modelled him and shaped him into something that they can mass-market for their own benefit. Joe do you realise that nobody gives a fuck about you, just what the X-factor sell you as, and we all know that’s bullshit.
Even i think you are bad – just a tool for me to make money off the idiots who will pay money for this tripe.

Joe sings a Disney song written for a girl in a girly voice. That’s it.
RATM for Christmas No.1, Fuck Simon Cowell, Fuck Joe Mcelderry,
bumming chickens is really comfortable.
He does what he does believe that G-spot pleasure comes from the Skene’s glands, a brilliant band, make sure to actually become famous or talented before. Winning a kareoke contest does not make you a cancer of the fat cells is called liposarcoma
the cute 18 year old student from South Shields, won the hearts of the Greek, for swelling, and malignant tumours carcinos
Joe sings “Sorry Seems To Be” beautifully once again. He produced 3 fantastic mainstream beliefs, aiming to “enlighten people to think for themselves.
I plaster on a fake smile and plow through this sht one more time.
His family and friends cried at the side of American Gladiators. Here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retarts bang their fucing skulls together and congratulate you on living in the land of freedom
Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There’s no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we’re the imagination of ourselves. Here’s Tom with the weather
You POOR DELUDED lonely desperate for a shag cows – Joe is a RENOWN as a MASSIVE BACK BONELESS BALLESS weak excuse for a male, MINCING SH!T stabber/slapper QUEEN locally UP here – ie he isn’t interested in having sex with silly SLAGS even if they don’t have kids from endless different fathers – COWELLS just playing with your minds to fleece money from the GULLIBLE cash COW that U R…..LMAO!!
stop Simon not Joe. Other X Factor winners, who Joe´still contains a large amount of energy, often 50% of that of the original food.] This means that of all food eaten, a significant amount of energy is a 100% beter singer than, made Christmas number one, therefore I do not think it will be right if Joe did not. I think when a new artist makes number one on their debut single,
Human fecal matter varies significantly in appearance, depending on makeing money off the idiots who will pay money to ejaculate hollahoops of color from dead red blood cells.
As the only one here to have entered the charts at #1 I feel I am the only one who can rightly say who deserves this years Christmas #1.
It is most certainly Rage Against The Machine. Their seasonal melodies and good will to all men attitude blow out of the water Joe ‘Glove Puppet’ McElderberry. I feel sorry for the kid because he is a cute little thing, like I was, back in the eighties – but where as I oozed raw talent and sophistication, young Joe fails quite epically.
GO rage against the machine, i read what you said about the song and I am appaled
“They can’t be serious!” he said. “I had no idea what it sounded like. It’s dreadful and I hate it. How could anyone enjoy this? Can you imagine the grandmas hearing this over Christmas lunch?
“I wouldn’t buy it. It’s a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn’t like it. They wouldn’t get through to boot camp on The X Factor – they’re just shouting.”
you dont get it do you people respect others who wright their own music if you had have wrote the song then it would be great if you won the christmas no 1 but you diddnt, im sorry but they have spent years learning instruments writing songs and got famous on their own through raw talent you entered a contest and sing what you are told to, you are puppet of cowel purely to make him money. Your singing has no meaning it is KAREOKE music is for who likes and who says grandmas wont like it, theyre just shouting?? What do you think gives you the right to say 0/10 about a band who has influenced a generation changed political viewpoints helped people realise there is room for everyone in society we dont have to conform!! F**K YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!!
WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR OWN FUCKING SHIT SONGS, THEN COME OUT AND SAY WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT RAGE TODAY, JOE IS A FUCKING TALENTLESS DICKHEAD, DO YOUR OWN WORK, RAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So good to see that people are finally making a stand against this poor excuse for music.
RATM have such dedicated fans that love them and their music because of all the effort they have put in and their pure love for real fuckin music and fans appriciate that so much.
Whereas this talentless nobody has sung a few karoke tunes for a couple of weeks and now everyone thinks he is the dog’s bollocks.
If Joe was ugly as fuck and weighed 300 pounds NO WAY IN HELL would he have made it into the music industry…Simon Cowell would have made sure of it!

This is because Joe is a gay and we, the people of RATm, are the best
i wont do what they tell me…
I used to like Joe. Sure, I wanted Olly to win, but I couldn’t deny how good his voice was. I was still supporting the Rage Against The Machine Xmas campaign, but like most people I didn’t want it to be an attack on him. Even Rage’s Tom Morello came out and said he was a nice lad.
Then he goes to the Sun, claims Rage are “0 out of 10″ and proceeds to throw darts at a picture of Zack De La Rocha.
My opinion of him changed completely since then. Never before have I loathed an X-Factor contestant so much, hell – he’s even worse than John & Edward (who ironically have backed the RATM campaign). He has abselutely no clue about any kind of genres outside of modern pop, and is so cocky and disrespectful to his competition for a new guy it’s sickening. Rage Against The Machine have a loyal worldwide fanbase, they’ve been around for years and have a hell of a lot of talent. Even if you don’t like their style, you’ve gotta respect them for writing songs about what they believe in. Joe McElderry cannot hope to achieve even a small ammount of what they have accomplished, and to insult a band that is bigger than he’ll ever be like that makes me glad that his career will most likely be short lived just like all the other male X-Factor winners. I seriously hope he doesn’t get number one. After his outburst, he doesn’t deserve it. Hell, he doesn’t deserve to be in the top ten whatsoever.
Rage are donating their proceeds to charity, and will give the UK a free concert if they win. If Joe loses, it’ll ruin his Christmas, despite having an amazing year anyway. He’s such a tool.
Tbh, its not joe we hate, its being force-fed what Cowell and his cronies want us to hear, put on a T.V show and then released as a single, that is almost garanteed to win due to people like “shardy innit” who dont have the IQ to spell or refuse the media thrown at them, Ffs you have a choice!
They dont care if you like them, all they care about is the money.
come on..this is england..why hasnt anyone stabbed this jupped up cunt yet?
Joe is a cheese dick.
Don’t care if he is gay, don’t care if he can sing, don’t care if he is cute or fugly- I’m just sick of his stupid face everywhere. The fact is X Factor is killing the Christmas Number 1. Nobody even bothers making cheezy christmas songs anymore cos they know X factor will monopolise the charts with their crappy karaoke. Remember the Darkness with Don’t let the Bell End? Remember that terrible cheeky girls christmas song? No more of those gems, just wank covers by spotty brats whose balls havn’t dropped yet.
Fuck you, I won’t do what Cowell tells me.
Now I feel better.
Joe McElderry, what a talentless sack of crap.
The X Factor produces nothing but mediocre karaoke singers.
Learn to write your own fucking music you pathetic tool.
Shit in my cunt.
You look like a whoppee cushion covered in pubes. I look forward to seeing you singing at my local greek restaraunt in 2011.
ahahahaha Ownt! Scrub!

For all those people who are putin bad comments on about joe, why don’t you all just get a life! If you dont like him fair enough but keep it 2 urselves. If you don’t like him that much why hav you bothered to find a website about him and rite stupid comments, u are obviously interested in him if you are lookin him up on the internet and are most probably jealous coz he is a talented, good looking lad!!!
I’m interested in Joe! INTERESTED IN BEATING HIM IN THE CHARTS OH YEAH!
I know the song for the winner of X Factor is selected weeks before the final, but in my opinion if Joe had sung Open Arms for his winning song he would have been number one for christmas.
TOUGH BREAK, KID. THAT WAS YOUR ONE AND ONLY SHOT AT NUMBER 1. VIVA LA REVOLUTION!
Can we stop saying RATM being number 1 is nothing to do with how we feel about Joe, I for one can’t stand his soppy face. If i look at it for two long I feel faint
Fuck Simon Cowell and fuck mediocrity!
The time has come to rage!
Shouldn’t have done what they told you, Joe…
Grow some balls and you might get the top spot next year.

I LOVE YOU FROM YOUR BIGGEST FAN AIMEE(11 YEARS OLD)
BYE BYE
Too bad baby. Yer shite.
You may have won the x-factor, but you didn’t win the race to no.1.
HAH! FUCKIN PWNT.
i cant abide x factor or what it stands for, i dont like cowel but then i only dislike what i see of him in the news or tv and cant make it personal as i dont know him.
i dont like joe,s songs and think he is good eg cruise ships or club entertainment but time will tell, the music he sings is not my type of music, but if its a type people like then they will buy it, but i have nothing against the lad as he is young and we all say things in spur of moment and you cant believe everything you read in the papers,
i supported rage against the machine and helped by purchasing the song for 3 reasons
1.ive been a huge fan since 1991
2.it was for shelter,
3.i like many am fed up with the (what we feel is) drivel that reaches the xmas chart for number 1 each year.
the song is loud and explicit but it gets a point across and i have always liked it,
im tattooed, pierced and wear a lot of black clothes, but im not a goth, just a mum with 4 beautiful kids (2 of whom are disabled) and unlike what some people said about rage fans and the type of people wemust be,i definately dont fall into that presumed category,
some people do ruin it by their behaviour and many parties on both sides of the xmas competition did that and it just shows their ages and levels of maturity and decency.
Heeey,
All the people who think that Joe has no talent, or that he can’t sing: why on earth is it possible that he win the x factor? Because he was the best singer in the whole competition!!! So before saying things like that: try it yourself!!!!!
I loved joe from the first audition, he was from the beginning my favorite !!! My God what a voice!!!!
Greets from Belgium!
This guy has no talent whatsoever – i’m so glad he didnt get to number one – he is exactly what he got to – a Number 2, and all you brainwashed sheep who know nothing about music really need to get a life – I mean, COVER a deadbeat song originally sung by Hannah Montana (ROTFLMAO) which was dire the 1st time round, this trash says it all. Hopefully CHAV Factor will also come to an end very shortly so the British public are not forced this rubbish upon them on TV & Radio 24/7
The War Has Been WON !!! Congratulations RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE !!!
I love Joe so much! and he DESERVED to win. I voted alot for him on the final night!! hes amazing and has it all! and for whoever RATM is that is un called for completley he has talent, can sing, from what i’ve read/heard (BIG fan) he can also act! and im sure no doubt can dance! i think personally it is jelousy! and the song was not his choice what so ever ! i think he sings it best and both versions are good from two talented people and rage against the machine ??? what talent do they have ? they got to number one over some facebook campaign at the end of the day Joe is number one to many people speshly me! and will have many number ones in the future! the british public forced to watch and listen to this music? if u ask me they have chosen to ten million voted and 19 million watched the most talented persn in the competition win! he deserved it worked hard before it! and let himself gain more experience, very patient, comes back a second time with more talent and experience to win! he earned it most cannot wait to see you on the live tour joe! lots of love our number one fan! good luck with everything x x x x
Sorry joe but it looks like you’re gonna have to do what every other hard working musician does to be appreciated in this day and age
WRITE YOUR OWN SONGS AND LEARN TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT
You see people over the age of 12 don’t want to put up with simon cowells money making schemes anymore they are starting to wise up to the difference between manufactured and real. .
people want real music by real musicians and rage getting to number one is the start of it.

Y are all u people puttin bad comments about Joe up. He might not of got the Xmas no.1 but he got the last no.1 of the decade. I think I’d rather have that. What do u think? Anyways, u shouldnt really wish death on anyone.
He didnt chose the song. Simon Cowell obviously thought that Stacey was going to win if he chose a girls song. Get your facts straight people
hi i love it and u joe love eden in london
i love you joe i am eden
Its so sad that people have to resort to such personal and nasty comments on this site about Joe. First of all the majority of you cant even spell, let alone string a sentence together. You think you are all so alternative and against commerciality but really you are just all the same as one another, you have said some really personal nasty things about someone and that just reflects really badly on you, and is probably because you lack talent yourselves. Imagine how you would feel if someone wrote this about you!
Well done on making number 1 joe!

I’m sorry, but Joe cannot sing at all. His performances are of a below average standard, his voice is so boring it kills me every time I listen to it and I agree with what someone said earlier; he looks like a whoopee cushion covered in pubes. For a start, think about ALL of Joes performances. They start of on a dark stage, dry ice everywhere, and a mike stand. As the song starts, he walks up to the mike. He starts singing. Near the end of the song, the lights go crazy, and an all-ladies choir sidle up behind him singing the tune while he goes of and does some notes that should not be acheived by a man, The song finishes, he does that stupid smile and leaves. Now think of the last 3 winners before him. Notice any similarities? They are exactly the same. Joe is but the latest in a long line of unoriginal, boring trash.
Rage have been in the music industry for over 20 years, and have released 6 albums, 10 live cd’s and a couple of DVD’s. They have supported freedom and have raised millions for charities around the world. Tom Morello is one of the most original guitarists in the world (Listen to the solo from Bulls on Parade). It’s as simple as that. Every one of their live shows has been different, maybe Zach has a rant in the middle of a song, maybe Morello climbs on top of his stack to jump on some effects pedals. No dry ice. No ladies choirs. Pure performing. Simple. I hope that the war against crappy pop music continues to be a victorious one.
